I'm a member of Low Carbon West Oxford (LCWO) which is part of the Community Action Group (CAG) project in Oxfordshire. I'm currently studying and, as part of my course, completing a project on LCWO where I will complete a skills audit to become more aware of the skills we have as a group, identify skills gaps and make recommendations about using training to make the group stronger into the future.

If you know of any particular groups where this has taken place or if you have a recommended approach to follow regarding the management and development of volunteers, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

    Hi floradeospina,

Volunteering England www.volunteering.org.uk and the Institute for Volunteering Research www.ivr.org.uk have practical and research/academic resources you can look at. Both organisations are also hosting conferences in March looking at the management of volunteers and researching voluntary action. Check out their websites on the events section for details.

You could also join and ask the same question at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UKVPMs/ an online forum for volunteer managers - your bound to find an answer there!

  3. Hi Flora,
We're just doing this with all of the Dorset Transition Towns and expect to also feed into the future development of Transition Training so a very useful time to be looking at this.
Also Gill Seyfang did some good work researching the needs / issues facing Transition Towns in the east of england
I'm up to my eyes this week (sadly) but email me / ring me next week for a chat so we can share where we're at (am writing a survey monkey survey for Dorset towns on Thursday so will be better after that!)

    Best wishes
    Linda
