  1. Here is the link to the BBC's inside out programme that did the filming when we were at the conference. skip the first seven and a half minutes unless you're keen on caravans.

Apparently we are "disorganised and middle class", they used the images of us arranging ourselves in order of age/location etc to illustrate this, there is some irony in this!

Audaye - thanks for this. We're all operating at the edge of chaos and to expect things to be something other than messy is an exercise in self-delusion.

I always find it quite amusing when middle class people accuse others of being middle class, but I have heard people at the Nottingham and Cirencester conferences say "were all middle class" as self criticism. I've been tempted to get a T shirt with "Im working class" printed on it at times! In Nottingham we're aware that its going to be the poor areas that are going to hit the pan first and in cities I think theres an obligation for more affluent areas to support the inner cities.
To get back to Inside Out, I thought it was a pretty good piece in all, with a good explanation of peak oil. It will be interesting to see if it benefits Transition Nottingham.
unfortunately "disorganised" is a pretty accurate description of me, if not Transition Nottingham!!

I'm often wondering if there is such a thing as the middle class. Right now, I'm thinking that there's only two classes:

    1. the Bankers
    2. the people who are paying for their extravagances

From a Gaian perspective, there's another division:

    1. those who don't feel (or aren't aware of) their connection and responsibility to the earth and its biodiversity
    2. those who are aware

So what does the BBC analysis tell us? Well, it's telling me that the BBC implicitly fortifies the meme of academic and economic divisions. Sure, it's one way of looking at the world, but jeez, can't they be a bit more imaginative??
