Hi All

The forum seems to work really well, I got my password etc in a matter of seconds, and it’s nice to see the topics laid out so clearly. I now feel like I will be able to follow up my interest in events and hope to get more involved.

I guess it will take a little while for people to log on and get used to the forum, but I think its well worth a go, perhaps we could make a regular plugging for it in the emails if there is further interest here.

Righto, a little about myself-, I live right in the centre of Sutton Coldfield- (B73), I’m keen to learn more about the application of the transition vision in Birmingham and look forward to positive action particularly with my fellow Suttonians!

Thanks very much and hope to see you Wed 10 Jun at The Journey MCC from 7pm!

Hi, Martin D here. Wanted to support you and try out the forum - all seems simple enough! I'm actually based in Shirley (part of Solihull) - is there anyone else from my neck of the woods who might like to explore a bit more about Transition Solihull, or is Solihull too wealthy to have to consider that at the moment (snigger)??

Amanda here! I will post a link to this topic on the Transition Brum Discuss email list.

Perhaps we can explore over the next few days how well this forum works for us for discussion, and then report back to the Hub Second Wednesday for June, on Wed 10 Jun at The Journey MCC from 7pm: http://transition-brum.wikispot.org/Contact

Is anyone here interested in facilitating a showing of The Power of Community film in their Birmingham neighbourhood over the next few months? I'd like to put my hand up and ask for expressions of support - I'll do my best to support showings elsewhere around the city in my turn!

For non-Birmingham readers ... Transition Brum is still mulling, seeing if a consensus is emerging about how to move forward. One possibility is that one of our (huge!) wards will 'go critical' and start to form a Ward-level Transition Neighbourhood Initiative, which will then help everyone else in Birmingham to move forward, and enable the formation of an official Transition Birmingham with a formal Hub structure. Any guidance on that process, gratefully received!

Is there a consensus amongst Birmingham people about the focus for our June Second Wednesday - is it 'Steps toward an Official Transition Initiative in Birmingham'?

Hi

I've just signed up to the forum and sent my first post (to the research forum.) A few questions:

1. Though my post appears when I'm logged in, it's not visible when I'm not logged in. Is this because it needs approval from the forum creator first? If so, this needs to be explicitly stated somewhere: it's confusing. If not - there's a problem. The forum:

http://transitiontowns.org/forum/topic.php?id=80&replies=4

2. Currently there's no option to receive an email if a favourite gets a reply. There is a plugin for this:

http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/post-notification/

3. There's no forum topic or contact for this kind of question: it's not clear where to post technical questions like this. (Hence why I'm posting here.)

Thanks,

Dan

Thanks Dawn, I talked to community exchange.org a couple of years ago and while they were happy for schemes to join and play by their rules, they weren't giving away any software. It's not clear to me from the site at the moment if they have changed their stance.
I'm about to launch an alpha of the drupal modules and I'd really like to see transition towns benefitting from Drupal and open source ethics. There is still room to change the scope and add features. What's needed next is a community to trial the software!

I'm building complementary currency package for Drupal 6 and I need an expert to give me pointers. Later I'll be looking for people to write documentation, and package it and trial it and help the first communities get on board.

Yes, yes, I too want to see a global Transition place for sharing resources. I like the Aotearoa website Judith. I've felt that perhaps with a bit of tweaking this Transition Net wiki could be such a place. But I want to see the left hand panel redesigned to make a more comprehensive content more easily reachable.

I haven't yet mastered the pmWiki this uses, and meanwhile I designed a whole website to try to compass Transition - www.greenworldtrust.org.uk. I'd like to cut it up to repaste on a proper Transition resources wiki where we can all build new pages like in Wikipedia.

One thing I've done that IS a resource I want to flag up, is a nice presentation of all the Open Space workshops at the Conference: grouped by interests and made visible yet legible side-by-side:

http://www.greenworldtrust.org.uk/TT/OpenSpaces2008.htm

Yes, yes, yes -- from the US! Such a thing would be wonderful! (although we'd have to fix the spelling ;-)

James Samuel et al. have a nice thing going in NZ at http://www.transitiontowns.org.nz/index.php/Resources/Resources. I'd be interested in evolving ideas of best practices on how to: connect with city government, work with local organizations (environmental, church, educational, social, etc), do awareness-raising events (frequency, engaging participants, etc), do outreach (tabling, media, etc), keep people engaged in personal transition, build connections among residents, etc. Obviously a lot of this might be influenced by locale and much of it is at least touched on in the Transition Handbook.

The South East Transition Initiatives (SETi) group, who met last week in Lewes, would like to create a toolbox for all those handy things that could be shared among many TT initiatives - a resource map of anything from pamphlets to presentations to a sort of skills-and-experience who's who to advice on how to run an unleashing to organisational stuff to... You name it!

Pointers to such materials could easily be created on the Wiki, but I'm not sure about the materials themselves. Also they need organising, which anyone who has done that sort of thing will know takes time and effort.

So... Does such a thing already exist, and if not, would people like one to be created? And if so, what exactly would they like it to be like?
