Editor comment: this subject involves inclusive decision-making and a recognition that before the process starts to involve lots of other parties, there are decisions that need to be made. It's a bit of a paradox.
Here's how the group tackled it:
Who can make the decisions?
- If it's not you, then you have to seed the decision making process
- It's the responsibility of the group representative to involve everyone so that they can make the decisions
- The groups own the solutions, so it's their decisions
- To make decisions that everyone can stand by, all those people have to be involved, so:
- get all sectors of the community involved
- consult with them
- secure their agreement
- give them a sense of ownership through involvement and then...
... everyone:
- agrees
- decides
- moves forward to the next one
