Welcome to Taunton Transition Town

Taunton became an official Transition Initiative in August 2008. We are as yet a small group but there is a lot of energy in the community which we hope will find an outlet in the new year.

Forthcoming events:

17 January 2009 The Genesis Centre, Somerset College

Looking Ahead at 2029 - What Needs to Change Now?

Taunton Transition Town and Genesis invite you to join us in exploring how to achieve a more sustainable life and low carbon future.

10am - 3.30pm - registration starts at 9.30am £10 including lunch

We have a great day planned with world café style conversations; a variety of short workshops and local food for lunch.

Stephan Harding author of Animate Earth and teacher of Gaia theory at Schumacher College will be the speaker after lunch

An opportunity to gather knowledge, ideas and expectations for the future. Come and be part of the impetus for positive change in the face of real challenge.

What are the changes we want to see in Taunton in the next twenty years? At our world café event local people have the chance to talk about the issues that matter. Here are some examples of what it may look like on the day:

Transport Looking for transport and travel options when considering a life less dependent on fuel

Energy All about energy - what is not working and what are the alternatives

Food Everything to do with food - local, organic, seasonal and commercial

Water How to protect this precious commodity and use it more efficiently

Town and Country How to reduce the impact of pollution, waste and the depletion of national resources

Family and Community Recognising and valuing the importance of the diversity of families and communities and what we each have to offer and share

Wellbeing A focus on healthy living in changing times - mind, body and soul

Education Finding ways of learning and sharing knowledge, skills and expertise, amongst all ages, to support a more sustainable way of life.

Leisure and Culture Recognising and sharing the ways in which we relax, create, learn, challenge and celebrate all that we are and all that we have.

Consumer Culture Exploring the ins and outs of our consumer culture and whether it helps us thrive or freeze.
