'Textile Events 2008'
Textiles Open Day

The Textiles open day was a huge success and thankfully the fine weather held too! As well as showing off our weaving, knitting, sewing, dying, spinning, printing, hemp and rubber, we were very pleased to have a stall from the Guild of Disabled Homeworkers (a charity based in nailsworth).

PREVIOUS EVENTS 2007:
Fashion Show with Therese Mary Designs

A show reworking discarded clothes and textiles into beautiful, colourful, new garments. Friday 29th June, 7.30 at Egypt Mill in Nailsworth, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Therese Windle, the designer, writes 'In creating the final garment I love that something that is blemished or unwanted becomes transformed into a garment people will want to wear and admire. I like the positive environmental impact in that it recycles unwanted textiles/clothing, reducing landfill. It also challenges the attitude that something has to be “perfect” to be beautiful.'
Visit to House of Hemp

We are planning to visit the House of Hemp (http://www.houseofhemp.co.uk/hempfp.html), Marhamchurch, Cornwall, where hemp is grown and hemp products sold, at a date to be arranged during August. We will be combining this with a visit to the Eden Project, where we will be able to see hemp growing. Please contact Molly if you would like to come along (molly@gaianeconomics.org).
Fibrefest display, Devon
Fibrefest is an extravaganza of textiles and fibre. It will be a festival of desirable textiles; gorgeous yarn to knit and weave with; fleece and fibre to spin and felt and animals to admire. There will be a range of inspirational workshops and seminars for you to learn new skills or polish forgotten ones.

The weekend also heralds the return of Bridwell Country Fair, organised as a fundraising event for Coldharbour Mill. It promises a classic car fair, a variety of stalls, a funfair and a local food tent. Spend the weekend in the beautiful Blackdown Hills and immerse yourself in textiles and fibre.
The main event is on Saturday Ist and Sunday 2nd of September 2007. Gates open at 10am each morning and close at 5pm. The festival begins with a felt making day on the 29th August with more workshops and lectures until Sunday evening.
The festival will be held in the picturesque Bridwell Park with the kind permission of Lord and Lady Ivar Mountbatten. Bridwell Park is in the village of Uffculme, Devon, very close to major road and rail links.
