Energy, Building and Water

Energy is obviously at the heart of the Transition Town idea. To get an idea of your contribution to carbon emissions you can use one of the many carbon calculators available online. I especially like the Resurence once, which is thorough and offers helpful guidance: http://www.resurgence.org/carboncalculator/index.htm

Our energy group will work in a number of different areas:

Energy conservation

The potential for local renewable generation via wind, solar, and small-scale hydro (we have a very supportive local agency in Severn Wye Energy Agency: http://www.swea.co.uk/

Stroud District Council also make a contribution towards the cost of renewable technology installations via their WISE Homes Grant.
For further information contact Debbie Hewitt, Sustainable Energy Officer

More sustainable transport fuels such as biodiesel (Stroud had one of the first supplies in the country: http://www.purebiodiesel.co.uk/) and bioethanol

The potential for the co-operative form of organisation in the production and supply of these fuels and renewable energy sources.

From December 2007 recycled biodiesel will be available from an outlet in Uplands, Stroud - phone Simon Kenning 01453 767292 CHEAPER THAN REGULAR DIESEL!

Investigate the potential for bulk purchasing of energy saving technologies to be used at the domestic level (microgeneration). This could involve, for example, the bulk purchasing and installation (at a discount) of solar hot water systems.

At a personal level you could investigate the Personal Energy Descent Action Plan
Because of the clear link with housing and water the same group is covering all these issues. See the linked page on housing: Housing
