Education/training/skills group

Changing the world begins with changing individuals and how they see the world. We plan a series of 'educational' events around the theme of climate change, peak oil and relocalisation, film-shows and discussions to help people find their place in the new world we are building together.

We also want to increase and broaden our own skills through training. To begin with we need a skills audit as well as investigating the potential to develop new skills and areas of expertise in this area.

We are also planning to work with local schools and college to build sustainability into the curriculum.

Skills sharing

One consequence of the globalisation of the economy and the movement of production to low-wage countries, especially China, is that people in Stroud have become increasingly less skilful. However, we still have some very talented people. We are carrying out and audit of the skills we still have and then plan to share these through a series of workshops, events and parties.

Many skills relating to the making and mending of textiles are available through the Stroudwater Textiles Trust and the Transition Textiles group. See the TextileEvents events page for more information.

We will also be arranging our own training sessions.

Learn Woodland Skills

The Woodland Skills course will begin again on 16th September. It is a series of six sesssions, on the 3rd Sunday of the month, running up to 17th March.

Each day session runs from 10am to 4.30pm at Hawkwood, Wick Street, near Stroud. Meet in the car park. Make sure to wear boots and waterproofs and bring a packed lunch. The course is free.
