As humanity faces the twin challenges of the end of the era of cheap oil and climate change, Transition Town Moreton sets out to generate discussion of the issues and to harness our collective creativity and energy as a community to create a sustainable way of life. Below, you can read about the issues, what's happened so far in Moreton, and about action groups and future events.

The Story in Moreton So Far…
In November, 25 people came to watch ‘The End of Suburbia – Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream’. This sobering film setting out the case for Peak Oil and the consequences for society sparked interesting discussions afterwards. There were a range of ideas from devolving powers to localities, to using the remaining oil to deal with hazards such as nuclear waste and polluting landfill sites while generally people find alternative sources of energy and ways of living without oil. Then Transition Town Moreton was officially launched with 35 people attending a talk by Naresh Giangrande of Transition Town Totnes followed by a community visioning and brainstorming which engaged lots of creativity and imagination in finding ways for Moreton to transition from oil. Peter (of Steward Wood and MED Theatre fame) sang some of his songs, and various action groups were formed (see below).
"You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete." Buckminster Fuller
The Peak Oil Countdown a thoughtful 80's powerballad by Peter Cow (with thanks to powerballad meisters ‘Europe’)
We’re learning together
how we can live well
live well after Peak Oil
a community solution
so let’s come together and figure out
it’s happening now, happening now
and things will not be the same again
It’s The Peak Oil Countdown….
We’re heading for greenness
by choice or by default
and the sooner we’ve seen this
the better for us all
the future’s spread out before us
are all born now, all born now
born out of the choices we make today
It’s The Peak Oil Countdown….
