We have started a community allotment at Mersey Road Allotments. All are welcome to come and get involved, whatever your experience or ability. Even if you are unable to commit much time or energy come and do what you can, when you can and help us establish this important community resource.
We have the plot on probation for 6months and free for the first year as it was so overgrown with brambles. Dan has now cleared a large area of brambles and we have been planting up the beds we created last summer. We have also planted some apple and pear trees.
The plot has a compost toilet and is next to the old Green Loops plot which is now run by Stu and Netty. It is a particularly beautiful and peaceful location.
We meet each Sunday from 12 onwards. Once you have a key however you can go down whenever you like.
HOW TO GET THERE.
By car or bike: Go down Mersey rd until you see the allotment gates on your right. Ring Anstey or Dan to come and unlock the gate.
By Train: Get off at Aigburth station, come out of station and turnleft down Mersey road.
By bus: From town/ st. Michaels get the 82 or 32 past Aigburth Vale, past Otterspool park, get off at the top of Mersey rd.
We have lots of ideas. For e.g we would like to do a permaculture course based at the plot. Please email ideas and thoughts even if you can't make it down to the plot itself. How can we ensure the plot is a true community resource/ educational tool?
