We will be having a break over Christmas and the new year, starting again in late January with our exciting spring programme which will include:

A focus on projects and practical action in the Sefton Park area, where the groundwork of awareness raising has been done and where there is a thirst now for practical manifestations of transitioning. Early ideas include:

garden/allotment sharing between people who have growing space and no time and those with time and no growing space;

energy efficiency;

community supported agriculture;

a skills share/clothes swap/LETS local currency;

bee keeping;

jam and preserve making;

introductory film showings at Mello Mello (town centre), Dingle Community Learning Project and hopefully at Crosby Community Plaza;

more advanced films and discussions exploring deeper aspects of transitioning to a more sustainable economy at Next to Nowhere;

a ‘hearts and minds’ group to explore some of the more psychological aspects of coming to terms with what might be quite a difficult future if some of the more pessimistic scenarios around climate change and ecological overshoot are true;

a permaculture course in Liverpool;

a summer environment ‘teach-in’ at the University;

Look out for more details soon, and contact the core group if you have other ideas for things to do. Remember, transitioning is about unleashing our skills to deal with climate change and peak oil. There is no ‘they’ who should do things – we need to get on with it and do what we can, and make sure together that Transition South Liverpool is more than just a talking shop!
