This is our transition!!

Plan meeting, July 4th 2008

Agenda

The Energy Group

  • presented their draft plan
  • are hoping to invite new people in the group for their input, in particular experts and installers
  • would like to add maps
  • would like to investigate tidal mills

The Health Group

  • presented their draft plan
  • emphasised its skeletal nature and need to do more research
  • will dig out previous attempts by the group at an EDAP
  • noted it is a highly political subject, in particular now as natural and herbal medicine is under threat from EU legislation
  • Patrick suggested that for the EDAP we should focus on the positive vision, the steps may include lobbying, public awarenss
  • noted lack of time and people in the group is hindering progess

The Dream Life Group

  • presented their draft plan
  • the group is essentially about lifestyle, where you live, how you live and who you live with
  • the vision is one of cohousing, ie community sharing facilities
  • it is also about living more sustainably and applying permaculture
  • the EDAP includes models from elsewhere
  • the action plan needs more work
  • their next steps are to do more research, lobby for shared facilities, create groups and communities and produce a guide to cohousing

The Transport Group

  • presented their draft plan
  • will return to the EDAP at their next meeting having focused recently on organising an event

The Business Group

  • presented their draft plan
  • the plan includes:
    • background
    • the vision
    • the steps groups under themes from the vision and categorised as short, medium and long term

The Textiles Group (report from Patrick)

  • will begin work on an EDAP
  • have concerns about confidentiality and risks involved in publishing this kind of document

The Land Use Group (report from Chloe)

  • have disbanded for the moment
  • there is a group in Lewes, the Lewes Community Land Trust, formed of campaigners against development in the town, who aim to create positive vision for Lewes 2020 with a focus on land use and development and involve the community in this vision – the EDAP is meeting with them this week

The Arts Group (report from Chloe)

  • Janette is alone in the arts group
  • the EDAP group are discussing possibilities for integrating arts into the EDAP

The Heart & Soul Group (report from Chloe)

  • have been concentrating on their monthly meetings
  • the EDAP group have begun a discussion regarding possibilities
  • noted by all that the heart of the transition is crucial to the process, it is energy descent and consciousness ascent

The Food Group (report from Chloe)

  • has an EDAP
  • the EDAP group are supporting the food group with the plan

The Local Government Group

  • is not a functioning group at the moment

The Waste Group (report from Chloe)

  • sent their latest draft of their EDAP and list of projects
  • are working on revising their EDAP

The Schools Group

  • the group is forging ahead on great projects all detailed on their group page on the wiki
  • will put together a project list

The EDAP Group

  • applied for funding and unfortunately not successful, have another possibility for funding
  • have collected resources linked to on the wiki on writing an EDAP on our group page
  • are meeting with Lewes Community Land Trust to explore common ground
  • have been discussing the EDAP process in our recent meetings and have come to the conclusion that the work we have been doing is the basis for our EDAP: this is our transition!!!
  • will collect exsting plans and list of existing projects and ideas from the groups
  • will look at how to bring to life our positive visions for Lewes and around with perhaps poetry, pictures, stories, childrens' work, dance, theatre, etc and welcome suggestions
  • will look at different possible versions of the EDAP – shorter version, detailed version, different media

next steps

  • business group: identify gaps in the short, medium and long term sections in the plan
  • energy group: get installers/professionals to input into the EDAP and discuss a tide mill at Newhaven
  • health group: coordinate currently available TTL health writings and inter/nationally available documents
  • transport group: work out with grou how to reinject enthusiasm so we progress
  • dream life group: network/connect with similar local groups
  • EDAP group: establish common ground with LCLT, collect plans and project lists, do the minutes
