- Planning is as much a process as it is a tangible deliverable (ie the work versus the outcome).
- Engaging people is as least as important as the output. If people engage with the process they are much more likely to do the steps.
- The TTL groups can all plan separately – this will ensure that as many of the people and institutions of Lewes as possible engage with the process.
- It is important also that the groups collaborate – to create a picture across the whole of TTL that is consistent, and without too much repetition.
- Out of the planning process will come specific projects and doable steps – these will be inspiring for everyone involved in the planning process.
- The practical, short-term steps that people come up with help them feel that their vision is achievable.
- The vision needs to be inspiring. It will be inspiring if it is both positive – creating “towards” motivation (everyone wants to make the world a better place); and has a sense of urgency – “away from” motivation.
- Being a part of the planning process helps people discover ways to make their world a better place that are more beneficial to them.
- People have different needs in terms of timing – some people like to see the very long-term, some people like to do stuff tomorrow. And everything in between. So the Vision needs to offer things to all these people: so we need, for example: a 5-year, a 10-year, and a 25-year Vision.
