Local Food Branding

Starting at the weekend of February 8th,9th, this project is aimed at maintaining a market for locally grown and produced food.

This means finding ways of supporting the town's independent retailers who are in direct competition with supermarkets. Compilng a list of these revealed how few there are left!

The plan is to identify the local food in shops with a black/white sticker, Attach:logo3cm[1].jpg supported by a window poster and press coverage. We shall be visiting monthly to discover the consumers reaction to the labelling.

Initially we are piloting the idea in 2 shops -Full of Beans in the bottleneck and Lansdown Health Foods in the Cliffe. Both these businesses have been trading for many years.

Our current definition of local is a food that has been grown, reared, brewed, caught, baked, pickled or processed in Sussex.

After three months, the pilot will be reviewed with an intention of offering our support to all the independent food traders in Lewes.

Many thanks to Graham Love who has made this project possible by sponsering the printing of the labels.
