content and framework of the EDAP

what should be in the EDAP?

  • introduction to the context of peak oil and climate change
  • principles and aims of TTL
  • facts and figures about Lewes, perhaps in map format
  • how people can get involved
  • transition tales, possibly also histories

style

  • uncomplicated
  • visual
  • emphasis on positive vision rather than catastrophic future scenarios
  • accessible language
  • in colour
  • including photos, cartoons, etc
  • need to make plans relevant to everyday life
  • short and sweet

launch

  • a touring exhibition around town
  • a summary version to every house in Lewes

funding

  • TTT and TFR have funding for their EDAPs
  • funding is needed for at least the publishing of the EDAP

event

  • 13th or 20th September an event for groups to share the details of their plans (vision and steps) and discuss overlaps
  • this event replaces the September 8th meeting

reviewing the plans

  • James Greyson has offered to review the groups' plans, groups should contact him if they would like him to review their plans
  • agreement that plans can be reviewed by all in TTL and that groups will take their plans for review to relevant experts

Transition Town Totnes

  • TTT has received funding for a coordinator post to facilitate the writing of their EDAP
  • the coordinator has a plan for community engagement in writing the plan

outreach

  • Pippa, Kate and Hermione met to discuss possible ways of engaging with the people of Lewes. Possibilities include:
  • collecting ideas at events such as farmers' markets, using a question, writing ideas on a board, video interviews, to create a snapshot of community views
  • day events
  • Pippa and Hermione producing a template for groups of a two hour session for groups' audiences, eg Chamber of Commerce for the business group or community groups, with perhaps an introduction to TTL and the issues or what's in the news and drawing in people's ideas for solutions

meeting 16th May

  • four questions, in groups of three or four, a few minutes each, active listening:
  • what's going well?
  • what is challenging?
  • what is your vision or goal?
  • what are your next achievable steps?
  • feedback from this meeting
  • outreach feedback and are the groups interested?
  • what do you need now?

actions

  • Chloe will put up links to statistics on Lewes District on wiki
  • Kevin will draft an introduction
  • Kate will look into funding the EDAP
  • Pippa will forward information on TTT's EDAP writing
  • Pippa will put a copy of the full report, Painting the Town Green, in the office
