Business Group Purpose
Purpose
To work with the businesses of Lewes to help them understand, and take positive action to embrace, the opportunities and risks created by peak oil and climate change.
Scope
Geographically, our activity is centred around Lewes and the surrounding villages (basically the BN7 and BN8 postcodes).
The business group’s focus is, unsurprisingly business. This means that we are focussed on the intersection of the sustainability process with the business improvement process:
- The sustainability process spans social, economic and environmental factors. In relation to business this includes Waste, Emissions, Renewable Energy, Closing the Production Loop, Resource-Efficient Transportation, Redesigning Commerce, and Sensitizing Stakeholders.
- The business improvement process spans functions including People, Product development, Marketing, Sales, Delivery, Finance and administration, and Location/infrastructure.
We are updating our definitions of sustainability, growth and other key terms, as our own understanding evolves. We are able to live with this ambiguity for the time being, while we get on with defining projects and getting them underway.
Note that there are other TTL projects focussed around Arts, Communications, Education, Energy, Food, Health, Heart and Soul, Housing, Land Use, Textiles, Transport, Waste and Water. We intersect with all these projects in some way – at minimum because each area involves both businesses and consumers, both of whom are of interest to us.
Why are we doing this?
- To make Lewes a better place for us, our families, our friends and our broader community.
- To strengthen our personal and group connections with the business and wider community in Lewes.
- To be part of the change, locally and globally.
- To demonstrate the change to others.
- To learn and to have fun!
