The transition groups are forming
At and since the Unleashing just a month ago, an incredible 14 transition groups have formed. The groups' work over the next year will be to research and contribute towards the Lewes Energy Descent Action Plan. A capable and enthusiastic web of people is emerging. If you have ever wondered, 'what can I do to get involved?' or 'how can I help stop climate change/prepare for peak oil?', and if you are passionate about any of these areas (and it can be more than one) join the group(s) NOW! The groups promise to be creative, dynamic and meaningful. How much you contribute is up to you. To make contact, follow the live links below, or go to our home page. And tell everyone you know!

Permaculture course this weekend
Pippa Johns is running a course called Introduction to Permaculture: Design Tools for Energy Transition this weekend. If you're looking for ways to live more sustainably, and are worried about how we will cope with a future of energy and food insecurity, this course will give you some powerful tools to design our way into a lower energy, more efficient, healthier and happier future. For more information, or to book ring Pippa on 611275 or see (page on wiki).
Coming up: Housing Lewes in a world with less energy

- Duncan Baker-Brown of Lewes's Baker Brown McKay Sustainable Design talks about local initiatives;
- Cllr Peter Gardiner, new Lead Member for Planning at Lewes District Council, will chair the evening and field questions.

How can we reduce energy use in our homes and housing in Lewes?
An Open Space event
An inspiring and powerful community think-tank exploring how Lewes will reduce its energy needs in a more energy-constrained future. The results from this day will be sent home to all attendees and will be vital material for the Housing group's chapter of Lewes' Energy Descent Action Plan. Come along, as expert or Lewes inhabitant. Delicious homemade, locally produced organic lunches provided and teas on tap; ring for childcare needs.
Workshops in Lewes primary schools begin today
Today Monday 21st May, the first workshop took place at Western Road School with one hundred 8-10 year old children attending Moving Sounds' workshop called 'How to make the best world imaginable'. Altogether 900 children in Lewes will attend these workshops, which have been generously funded by a Lewes resident. The children will take home a little book called 'Easy Steps to Climate Bliss' by i-count, and a questionnaire to be discussed with their families which will be fed back to Transition Town Lewes via the schools. This project will involve 1/8th of Lewes households, and is planned to widen awareness of the issues and increase the realisation that we can work together to make a difference.
Transition City Brighton!
The last we heard, about 6 people are planning to have their first meeting tonight Monday 21 May – spam rules prevent us from giving out email addresses, but contact the office if you wish to know more, and keep a close eye on the transition towns website for news of a group's appearance.
Transitioners' event in Stroud
On 31 May representatives from all transition towns, cities and villages will meet in Stroud to learn about each other and about the initiative generally.
Outreach
Now the Unleashing of Transition Town Lewes has happened, we have been invited to, and are making ourselves available to other organisations around Lewes. Please contact the office if you would like to have a discussion about ways in which we can work together and promote common goals in the town.
Need help
Our core group's role has changed since the Unleashing to one of supporting the emerging groups, as well as planning and pulling off the ongoing awareness raising programme. In some regards, and certainly short term, this entails more work than ever. We need help in the next month with everyday things like putting up posters, collecting things and sorting out our office. Please ring the office if you can spare a few consistent hours a week. Thanks.
