The 40% House - saving and producing energy at home
We had two excellent talks on housing. Brenda Boardman of Oxford University's Environmental Change Unit gave a strategic overview of ways to cut energy use in the nations housing stock over a number of decades. She stressed the importance of getting new build right, and proposed that demolition of old inefficient housing, for replacement with newer more efficient housing will often be the best way forward.

Duncan Baker-Brown of BBM Architects, Lewes, spoke about cutting edge
design for energy efficiency and other environmental benefits. He
also showed us that imaginative conversions can sometimes be a viable
alternative to complete rebuilds.
