2025 – the positive scenario

good health, strong sense of community, safe, joy, celebration, connectedness with nature, abundance, natural beauty, confidence, trust, empowerment, no cars, slow life, wind turbines, fields growing food, children being noisy, bike shops, transport for the elderly, artisans, exchange centres, more part-time work, no commuting, local work, more jobs on the land, market gardens, wellbeing centres, public water pump, teenagers leading and helping older people, council of all ages, real democracy, sharing resources, no plastic, human and natural environment overlap, demise of all political parties, town crier, daily meetings to decide the jobs for today, locally produced food and energy, more food stores, growing willow, change of diet, less meat, owning chickens, fruit and nut trees, local farmers produce for local people, trade via a small-scale port in Lewes, Newhaven thriving, zero waste, more music, strong links with nearby towns, harnessing the tides for energy, solar energy, appearance of buildings changed, horses and goats on the streets, manure collection points, car parks dug up, railways, better public transport, more working from home, jobs with a meaning, more faith in ourselves, less need to travel, bicycles to share, expectations are different, no foreign holidays, status not important, good at communicating, listening to ourselves, more diverse local council, TV reflecting a new reality, not so much influence of the media, more self-expression, more events, dancing more, seasonal celebrations, more exercise, more responsible for our health, different attitude to death, no more PCs, computers in public places, shared resources, less ownership, increased awareness of emotions, family, neighbours very important, more time for reflection, health system integration – wide range of options available, network of community midwives, diversity of spiritualities, churches are full with an increased community interest, children learn life skills at school, acceptance that education continues throughout life, teenagers look after younger ones, population control, smaller families, earth repair, building up soils, trees planted, bee keeping, global government, young people travel to other towns to learn new skills, interconnectedness

how is this different to the negative scenario?

community, real needs are met, positive feelings, respect for the planet, facing difficulties/suffering, no longer passive

what message would we send back to ourselves in 2008?

start building now, communicate more, be courageous, don’t be discouraged, true to ourselves, trust each other, mistakes are ok
