Groups
As part of the Transition process, we will look to form volunteer-run groups looking at different aspects of Leicester's transition to a more localised economy. All our groups are open for anyone to get involved - getting involved with a Transition group is a great opportunity to follow your passion (whether that's for local food, renewable energy, or countless other things) and make a real difference to life in our city.
In addition to our Steering Group, we currently have three active groups at present: an Awareness Raising group, focussing on spreading our message far and wide across Leicester, a Food group, focussing on developing access to a secure, nutritious and delicious food supply for the city, and a Heart and Soul group, looking at how we stay emotionally and spiritually healthy during the process of transition that lies ahead. A group focussing on reskilling is just forming.
Over the next year, we'll look to create groups looking at many other issues. These could be focussed on... energy; working with local businesses; working with Local Government; economics and livelihoods; or many other issues.
We'll also encourage Neighbourhood groups to form, focussing on particular parts of the city, and how the issues we are raising will affect life there. In other Transition initiatives in the UK, Neighbourhood groups are doing things like mapping green spaces that could be used for local food production and organising community events.
If you've got an interest in a particular aspect of Leicester's transition, and are interested in helping to set up a group, get in touch. Likewise if you're interested in starting a Neighbourhood group. We'll look to give you the support and background information you need to help get your group off the ground.
