Awareness Raising

An important part of the Transition process is spreading awareness in Leicester about Climate Change and Peak Oil and the Transition response to these issues. We hope to take this message out to businesses, organisations and the general public, in a variety of ways.

Some of the ways we'll look to carry out awareness raising are:

  • presentations to groups and organisations in the city
  • stalls at public events
  • guest speaker events and film showings
  • producing literature (fliers, booklets, magazines)
  • working with local schools/colleges/universities

Talks/Collaboration

If you would like someone from Transition Leicester to come and give a talk/workshop for your organisation/group, then we'd be happy to oblige. Contact Sallie on ogdgs AT aol.com or call Doug on 0116 2103637.

We're also keen to find partners with whom we can collarobate - whether that's through contributing to educational courses, having a stall at events, or organising joint events. Get in touch if you have ideas for working with us.

Awareness raising group

We don't have an active awareness raising group at present (we did for a short while in 2008) - instead, we have a pool of people available to carry out awareness-raising activities, such as talks, workshops and stalls. If you'd interested in helping out with awareness raising activities, or organising some of your own, then get in touch.

We'd also love to do a much broader range of awareness raising activities - we just need people to come forward who fancy helping to make that happen. Get in touch with us if you're interested in doing that.

Below is what we got up to when we had an active awareness raising group (in case you're curious!)...

Our first meeting took place on friday 16th May 2008. Minutes can be read here. We brainstormed the activities we'd like this group to carry out, and made plans for upcoming stalls and a speaker training event.

Our second meeting was on Saturday June 21st. We informally discussed how to effectively communicate our message both on stalls and through a powerpoint talk.

Our next step was hosting a Transition Network course on speaking skills for Transition talks. This took place on Tuesday 9th September at the West End Community Centre.
