Welcome to the Transition Leicester website!

What is Transition Leicester?

Transition Leicester is a local response to the challenges of climate change and peak oil. We are a growing network of local people looking to take action to inspire our community to make a transition towards a positive and truly sustainable future.

Our awareness of climate change and peak oil gives us two important goals:

  • greatly reducing Leicester’s carbon emissions, so the city contributes its share of the global effort to help avoid dangerous climate change
  • improving the city’s resilience, so that we are able to provide for our core needs – like food, energy, entertainment and transportation – even if prices of fossil fuels (on which our current infrastructure relies) substantially increase.

One of the main ways we'll try to do this is by working to create a positive vision of a future Leicester where we meet our energy needs without using fossil fuels.

We think that a fossil-fuel-free Leicester could be a vibrant, abundant, wonderful community in which to live, and we'd like to inspire the people of Leicester to work towards that vision.

Saturday 17th July 2010: Transition Leicester Cafe. 12pm - 4pm, Bishop St Methodist Church Hall, Town Hall Square.
