Welcome to the Transition Leicester website!

What is Transition Leicester?

Transition Leicester is a local response to the challenges of climate change and peak oil. It is part of a rapidly growing network of Transition initiatives in the UK and around the world.

We have two main goals – greatly reducing Leicester’s carbon emissions, so the city contributes its share of the global effort to help avoid dangerous climate change, and improving the city’s resilience, so that we are able to provide for our core needs – like food, energy, entertainment and transportation – even if prices of fossil fuels (on which our current infrastructure relies) substantially increase.

We also have another very important goal – to create a vision of a fossil fuel free Leicester as a vibrant, abundant, wonderful community in which to live, and to inspire the people of Leicester to work towards that vision.
