Allotments
June 2008
As the cost of food continues to rise, there is an increasing interest in growing one’s own fruit and vegetables. Part of TTK’s vision is to promote greater self-sufficiency in the community through more local food production which also tackles the issue of food miles. While not everyone has the luxury of owning their own garden big enough to grow fresh veggies, renting an allotment for a small annual fee is a means of doing just that.
TTK is putting together a proposal for gardening allotments that might become available to the town’s residents in the near future.
If you are interested in having an allotment, just text your name and ‘Allotment’ to 087 6763516 or email info@transitiontownkinsale.org.

Eddie has heard that a farmer near Turner’s Cross is renting allotments. He will find out more and make a note of this in the newsletter alongside a request for sites from interested Farmers in the Kinsale area. Eddie will also look at the land register to see who has land adjacent to the town who could be asked directly if they would be interested in such a scheme.
Louise Rooney had previously looked at possible sites in the Kinsale environs. The convent grounds were suggested as a possible site and Angela had previously suggested that a piece of land near St Eltins Terrace, which the Council own, may be suitable.
