TOOLS FOR SCHOOLS
National Schools in Kinsale have all been enjoying the benefits of a year of down to earth food producing classes provided free by Transition Town Kinsale. We would like to extend the scheme this year and ask for parents or local businesses to contribute to this important activity. No need to put your hand in your pocket though, unless you keep a trowel there! Have a look and see if you have any redundant tools that we can 'borrow'. Shovels, forks, wheelbarrows, etc. Bring them down to the Transition Town Tool Box at the Tuesday market and we'll look after the rest. Or phone 0870572929 and we'll arrange collection. No tractors please!
Community Garden News
A whopping €740 was raised from the Quiz Night on 27th February in the Armada, which saw much more than your typical pub quiz. Spot prizes abounded for those with the nerve to get up and be asked to do something embarrassing like imitate a dying duck or sing a song. A realistic scene of eviction was enacted by professional actors playing a Policeman and a peasant girl, dropping hints for questions that would arise in the history round later on. Almost everyone went away with a prize of some sort and we look forward to the next one with baited answer sheet. Let’s face it, TTK know how to do these things with flair, originality, a sense of fun and adventure.
Many thanks to the following for all their generous donations: Red Sandstone Varied Productions, Bolands, Kinsale Book Shop, Eileens Paints, Kinsale Crystal, Stone Mad, Book Stor, Collins Pharmacy, Quay Foods, Jim Edwards, Supervalu, Eileens Beauty Salon, Frank Curtain, Hartes Pharmacy, Londis, The Spaniard, Daisy Chain, Diva's, Subar, Susie, Angels's, Mikeo and the Guy.
One major challenge with the Community Garden at the moment is finding the time to give it the attention it deserves, so any volunteers, even just to do some watering every couple of days, would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone with free time and a desire to help out in some way here’s a few ways you can, if these don’t take your fancy you are always welcome to just pop up and take a look or be creative in whatever way you wish. In Community gardens people and community come first, gardening second.
Fantastic ways to be involved!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Drawing a base map of the garden
- Making attractive colourful signs for different plants and areas.
- There’s lots of space for planting flowers.
- The fruit area needs attention.
- Lovers of weeding will be in heaven.
- Border for mint area, I was thinking wine bottles.
- Stone bordering
- Making a hazel tipi, poles there already.
- Adopting a plant variety and raising it for the garden

Other work to be done at the moment involves giving it a good clean up, adding a bench, laying paths and basically preparing it for the coming summer months. A series of workshops will also take place, more of which later. Otherwise work continues every Sunday from 1 – 4pm. Hope to see you there.
