"It is not the strongest of the species that survives,
nor the most intelligent,
but the one most responsive to change."
Charles Darwin 1809 - 1882

The Isle of Wight has about 130,000 residents and gains up to 2.7 million visitors a year. It measures 23 miles east to west, and about 13 miles north to south. It lies just off the south coast of England, near Portsmouth, three miles across the Solent. The Island has a rich history including its own brief status as a independent kingdom in the fifteenth century. More info about the Island

The Island is a county with a County Council and its own MP.
We congratulate the Isle of Wight Council on their Eco-Isle plan. Even if the brave targets are not reached quickly, the effort itself will raise awareness of all Islanders and encourage everyone to take some small action for change in reducing energy dependency.

The County Council's Report 'Best Foot Forward' says:

"If everyone lived like the population on the Isle of Wight,
we would need nearly 2½ planets."
