"It has become appallingly obvious that our technology
has exceeded our humanity." Albert Einstein 1879-1955

Transition Isle of Wight is an independent Community Action project which will encourage local energy descent planning initiatives.

It will foster the idea of everybody on the Island doing a little bit, rather than waiting for unknown experts or Government to do it for us. This gives us the best opportunity to develop locally what our communities actually need, and improve the resilience of the Island-as-a-whole.

Locally, we call it "Transition Island" to give it a clear identity;
nationally, we think it is clearer to call it Transition Isle of Wight.

Our mission is to spark up Transition Towns on the Isle of Wight, and to start work on both whole-island issues and the Island’s relationship with the mainland.

Our philosophy is to encourage everyone to do a little bit, spreading the effort, the cost and the responsibility. What "a little bit" is, depends on people's abilities.

Let us remind everyone that it need not cost much. Using recycled materials, many projects can be very cheap. Most projects will save householders money. And while each one may not save a lot of money, or reduce oil-dependency and/or carbon emissions, very quickly, their combined effect will make a big difference in the end.

Our local website has a list of links to all sorts of tips.
