The twin challenges of peak oil and climate change are the biggest we’ve ever faced, and there’s no time to waste in getting to grips with them.
From renewable energy to local food production, Transition Isle of Man is all about making ourselves more self reliant in the Island and protecting our quality of life.

Transition Isle of Man is seeking a Coordinator.
Ideally we are looking for someone who believes in the Transition message and wants to help make an impact on how we communicate it with those who have already signed up to the Transition movement, as well as to the general public. It’s all about networking, sharing new information and press articles, keeping people up to date, and being the point of contact for others wanting advice or information from the Transition steering group. It will involve liaising with other groups on the Island who have shared objectives, and working in conjunction with them on joint awareness raising, events and activities.
It’s a central point of contact job. Already Transition is in four regional groups but headed by a Central Steering Committee. In time the central group will disband once all the groups are fully up and running and when an Energy Descent Plan (which you will be part of) has been agreed upon.
The role is exciting and as involved as you want to make it. It has huge opportunities for someone who is innovative; You will be dealing with everyone from Government, the press and media and naturally, ordinary citizens. It would help if you are a confident communicator and happy to write press releases.
You can work when you want, apart from attending the Central Steering Committee meetings (usually bi-monthly in the evening), where you’d be expected to keep notes and circulate minutes.
We envisage that all of this would involve about 5 hours a week with more hours some weeks than others. Naturally, the ability to work via email, be reasonably computer literate and have access to a computer are quite important. The job would suit someone who is looking to use their talents to benefit the community and wants a unique role in these uncertain times.
At the moment there is no fixed remuneration but several groups on the Island have pledged to support the role and if the right person can be found then there will be funds available.
