Transition Town Steering Group Meeting - 11.4.10 Mark’s House, Market Harborough Present: Darren, Mark
0. Family Learning Day Project The idea is for a Family Learning Day at Welland Park College on environmental and transition town themes. To get funding we probably need to plan for an event that is repeatable/reusable for other occasions. Mark met with Andrew Munro from Extended Services at WPC, Andrew was very interested in the idea but was not able to offer any definite practical support. We have provisionally booked the Assembly Rooms for the ONLY Saturday they are free - 2nd April 2011 from 9-1. This gives us a bit more time to get finance arranged and plan!
Mark and Sarah will take the project proposal to the Have Your Say event on Wednesday April 28th.
Liz Minichiello would be willing to help put the day together and run the day itself on a paid professional basis. TTSG would gather ideas together for the family activities covering Transition themes – local food, energy, end of oil, recycling, climate change, localisation, Town in 2030 etc.. Ideas to be collated and reduced down to six to use on the day.
Action: ALL to submit ideas (as brief descriptions) to Mark please.
1. The Transition Film
Action: Sarah to contact Chris Seward re viewing for Harborough Improvement Team and discuss with Lib Dems about a viewing
2. Working With The Council
LSP Meeting in July, we can probably join the Local Strategic Partnership from then.
3. Food Buying Group
All are encouraged to start making use of the monthly Leicester Wholefood Co-op delivery service.
4. Energy Group
The intention is to kick-off a sub-group that will look at Energy issues, which could include teach-ins on renewable energy for home & community, energy-monitoring and energy-saving tips for example. Darren has sent out an invitation by e-mail and had an article in the Harborough Mail. So far there have been 5 new contacts.
Action: Darren to arrange first meeting.
It was also noted that Helen Chadwick the EMRA Energy Advisor is based in Harborough.
6. Funding For Community Energy Project
Marion submitted information by e-mail to the previous meeting on her Community Energy Project idea which she had discussed with Kate Nightingale , Grants Administrator of the LCC Community Environment Team. In essence we may be eligible for matched funding for a specific Energy Project or even for the work of the Transition Group itself up to £5K, which could include website design etc..
Action: Energy Group to identify possible project/activities for funding.
4. Allotments& Gardens
Joules HQ on Rockingham Road has an allotment in their office grounds, they are looking for someone to grow vegetables there and keep the produce. This is really encouraging to have Joules actively supporting local food growing. ( Ed - I understand that Sue Hambleton has taken the allotment on)
Kelmarsh Hall has been advertising gardening jobs for a lottery-funded refurbishment of their large kitchen garden.
5. The Green Team
The Church Green Team will be hosting a bi-monthly coffee morning starting from Saturday April 17th . We would like to have a stall at these events.
Action: Mark to contact Ruth
6. Events - Transition Town Conference etc
Action - Is anybody interested in attending the National Conference in South Devon from June 12-13 ?
It is unlikely that we will be at the Carnival Ground this year unless we have some interactive inspiring idea to take along, but we should have a table presence at the Bowden Green Fair in Great Bowden on June 19th.
7. Transition Town Harborough Website
