1. The Action List
We used the action list as basis for meeting, there was also some confusion expressed on how to update the list. Action: Darren to give guidance on how to update the action list
2. Food Buying Group The Group meets again on September 3rd to finalize arrangements.
3. CSA/Allotments We discussed local organic vegetable growers that we knew of, Chevelswade and Bambury Farm at Peatling, would they be able to expand their current acreage to grow for a CSA type scheme ? The Farm Shop grows some of it’s own vegetables which is a local source but it was thought that they wouldn’t want to try to grow organically. In the meantime we should contact Ruth&Paul who have an orchard on their organic farm. Action: Lydya to contact Ruth&Paul Harding in Theddingworth to discuss helping them with a small orchard they have. Perhaps volunteers could go for an orchard day ? Darren had reported by e-mail that LCC have farm land assets available in the District but are a distance from Harborough itself. Action: Darren to contact Northamptonshire CC to ask the same question
We are still interested in working with F3 local food consultancy in Stroud http://www.localfood.org.uk/community08.htm Action: Saran to pursue funding and support for proposed workshop of f3 Stroud project with local food producers Action: Sarah to contact Seldom Seen Farm at Billesdon who do pick your own fruit (and meat production) to find out more about them
4. Beef CSA Mary talked about her organic beef business based in Tur Langton and Great Bowden and how stilton cheese used to be produced in Shangton ! Action: Mary to send a flyer for her business around the group
5. Social Enterprise East Midlands see http://www.seem.uk.net/ Action: Mary to contact SEEM to find out what they do and whether any grants are available
6. Abundance Project Green Team at St.Dionysius Church will be offering through the church magazine to help harvest apples from plums from trees in people’s gardens this autumn, see Sarah for more details.
7. Tree Planting We need to assess how many trees, types of trees and sundry other requirements for grant application. Probably for next year now. Action: Lydya to pursue calculating numbers of trees and locations required
8. Library Books & Display
Action: Mark to contact members for book/DVD suggestions and offers to purchase them
9. Transition Town Film The short film “In Transition” will be available soon from HQ for screening. It was agreed that TTMH to try to do a public showing perhaps with the Church Green Team.
