Environmental Action for a Better Leicestershire (ENABLE) is a countywide forum for the protection and enhancement of the environment. The partnership was formed in January 2003 after extensive consultation to gauge opinion on the need to establish a new countywide group for the environment, how such a network should operate and what it should aim to do. The full partnership now consists of almost 150 members including organisations, businesses and individuals that have a passion for the environment.
Community groups in Leicestershire are being given the chance to receive £500 funding to help with projects that tackle climate change.
ENABLE, the Leicestershire Environment Partnership and the Leicestershire and Rutland Rural Community Council are looking to work with two community groups on environmentally friendly projects, which help to reduce the effects of climate change by lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The Climate Friendly Communities project is part of the wider ENABLE Act on CO2 campaign - Act together … to make Leicestershire greener.
Projects could include buying and planting a community allotment to supply a village with fresh local fruit and vegetables, energy efficiency or water improvements to a village hall or community centre such as double glazing or new low flush toilets or rainwater harvesting. What’s really important is that the community work together to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their local area.
ENABLE can offer the chosen communities a start up fund of £500 along with free training sessions, advice and support and help with opportunities to access more funding for developing and implementing their project.
ENABLE are seeking two community groups to work with. A group who would like to work on a climate friendly project but have not started up till now and are gearing up to the challenge and another group which has already started working on a climate friendly initiative.
