The stragglers who stayed to the bitter end

As part of the Newcombe Street communities little project to see if this disused Orchard can be used for food growing we arranged a clear up of the site at 10am on Saturday February 28th. It was hoped that this event would show the communities willingness for the project and with a view to engaging the council in dialogue over the sites future.

More than 20 volunteers turned up to clear the site of rubbish and bramble and a good, if not tiring, time was had by all. Our thanks must go out to the Harborough District Council waste team, namely Sue Hall, John Kemp and Matthew Bills for their aid in this matter and for clearing the large amount of waste left after the clearance.

It is hoped that this event will create some headway so that discussions can be made with the council executive about our proposals for alternative land use on this site.

A meeting has been arranged to present an outline of this to Sue Smith the council Chief Executive Officer on March 6th.
