19/02/2008 Co-founder of Transition Network in Leicester
Co-founder of the Transition Network Ben Brangwyn took the time to visit Leicester to give a talk on the ‘Transition initiative’ and its 12 steps. The event took place in the Meer community college in Leicester just up from the train station and the room was a great venue for this which both Marion and myself attended.
The event started quite unexpectedly with a natural voice choir singing, what I believe to be was, a Maori song which they then got the audience to join in with… quite a good feeling to belt out some easy harmonies that early in the evening having not had any beers.
Ben Brangwyn then came on and gave the introduction to transition towns presentation were he covered climate change, the issues and arguments for not doing anything. Then he moved on to ‘Peak Oil’, the issues and the arguments for not doing anything and then we add the two together. Climate change and Peak Oil combined means that all the technological fixes in the world do not even come close to solving the issue unless some pretty radical stuff is undertaken.
We then did a little brain storming exercise where the attendees basically drew up lists of contacts and organisations they felt TTL should contact and forge relationships with.
We then had a summary chat with Ben and Robin before Robin played a video to set the note as we left.
The Irony was, every one in the room thought that this was Dani Patuzzi of TTL and that he had done it in Leicester city centre as he is very similar in appearance to the character doing this.
Of course, the desired effect was to get everyone to hug each other before departing and I have to admit, in this it was very effective.
Here is looking forwards to the first TTMH event.
