Hi there all,
Just a quick update about the civic society meeting last night.
Before Edward arrived to talk about the bill there was a discussion about the Farndon road development by David Wilson homes. It occoured to me that where there is "Structural planting" shown on the plans that we should get the council to insist on food tree's... Wallnuts, sweet Chesnuts, apples, pears and cherry trees etc.,
That would be in line with the objectives of the Transition initiative and should not be too big an ask of the developer... any thoughts?
The "Sustainable communities Bill" sounds great and it is amazing that it has got through to its third reading unhindered, Edward does think however that it will be quietly buried in the rush to get bills through before the end of the parliamentary session in October.
It has to go through Lords so a suggestion is to write to all of the Lords and Ladies to ask for them to expidite the bill. Remember that the Lords do not represent a constituency and so you will have to write to them all individually, this can be done on www.theworkforyou.com for free.
The after talk cup of tea was networking central, Sharon Shannon of the Harborough Traders Association introduced me to Councillor Sarah Hill who has been working on similar projects to ours with the Harborough Improvement Team and "Hands on Harborough". She is very interested to know more and will be in contact.
Also, we ended up sitting behing Councillor Alistair Swatridge who, once I had spoken to him, was very interested. In fact he rang this morning to say that he would like to attend the next steering group meeting.
So, it all seems to be happening slowly but surely.
Best regards
Darren
