Transition Fujino

We are absolutely honored and excited about becoming the first Transition Initiative in Japan and the 100th in the entire world!!

As was introduced in Rob's blog on September 4th (see the link below), Fujino is a small town with the population of approximately 10000, located just outside Tokyo. It's a home to Permaculture movement in Japan and also a home to Steiner School. And now it has become a home to Transition Town movement in Japan! So we personally think that Fujino is 'the Totnes of Japan.' http://transitionculture.org/2008/09/04/celebrating-the-100th-transition-initiative-transition-fujino/

So far, we have been trying to network and solicit support from people who are influential in this area. In December, we are planning to do a big presentation about Transition Towns and Peak Oil to people from local government, city council, local business owners, local school administrators. This is not an official Unleashing event, but it will no doubt unleash some buzz about TT around the community.

On a more visible side, there is a ECo-housing project that some of our Steering Group member are deeply involved. 4 households have agreed to build a completely natural, energy-efficient apartment that is based on Co-housing principles. This will become the hallmark of Transition Initiative in Fujino and also will be its homebase.

We are in the process of creating a website and will upload on the Transition Network as soon as it is done.
