Welcome! TT Deventer is the pioneering Transition initiative in the Netherlands. On this web page we will update you with what's happening in our country and of course also in our own hometown.
Developments in the Netherlands
TT Deventer is the first, but most certainly not the last, Transition initiative in the Netherlands. At present, there is a fast-growing group of over 50 Dutch Transition initiatives, most of them in the mulling-phase, but an increasing number of them become publically active.
Together with people from other local and national initiatives and organizations, TT Deventer has taken the initiative to help erect a Dutch Regional Hub. I have been privelliged to deliver a series of afternoon workshops (November '08, January, March and May) to an audience of about 250 in total of highly interested people. We notice there's a real upsurge of interest in the TT-concept in the Netherlands. Although you probably won't be able to understand Dutch, a visit now and then to the 'contact-persons' page of our Dutch Hub website will say more than words. At this website, you also find links to all other active Dutch Transition initiatives. Many of them will soon be ready to apply for 'official' status.
Results and plans in Deventer
Since we are Netherlands-based, most of our communication on our local activities in Deventer will be on our own Dutch language website, unfortunately to all you English speakers. But of course we'd like to share with you the main results of our activities and give you an impression of future events: In January and February, we hosted 13 evening-events in our Awareness-raising program. All were at different locations in the main city and in the outerlaying villages (which now form an integral part of the greater city). On the 1st of March we definately harvested all raised enthusiasm for the TT model at an Open Space event on the theme 'Deventer after Peak Oil'. The Open Space event created momentum for lots of people to develop their own input for TT Deventer. At present, this has evolved in a couple of active thematic workgroups ('Edible City', Heart&Soul, Solar Energy) and facilitating groups for awareness raising events, the website, our monthly newsletter and other PR-related activities. We also run a Transition Café, an informal meeting place at a lunch room which opens especially for us at every first monday evening of the month. We've got lots and lots of plans and ambitions for the near future, like organizing a seminar for the local businesses, starting courses and trainings and even setting up our own TT-TV television channel on the glassfiber cable which is now operable in the whole of Deventer.
Happy transitioning to you all!
For the Deventer Steering Group, Paul Hendriksen
