Transition Coventry

Through the Transition Coventry initiative we aim to work at a community level to find responses to the twin issues of Peak Oil and Climate Change.

We are just at the beginning of the journey from oil dependency to local resilience. We hope that you will join with us to work from grass roots up to improve Coventry's sustainability and reduce our carbon footprint.

If you want to know more about any of the terms above please see the More Information page.

Coming up!

Help needed for Coventry Green Fayre Sat 21 August in Memorial Park

Is anyone available to help out with our truly magnificent stall (wood burning stove, solar thermal tubes, bicycle powered lights...) on Sat 21 Aug? It would be great if we had lots of folk to talk to people about peak oil, climate change and the aim to get people making the transition to a low carbon, low oil future... but now, not when the government is forced to. The future is in our hands! But we need to get other people on board, and get going!

Skill Swap - Monday 27 Sept 7.30pm Council House

Our next meeting is on Monday 27 September when we will be taking a bit of time to get to know who can do what in our group: please come along prepared to say a little bit about yourself, eg 'learning to grow herbs in a plant pot on the kitchen window sill'; and what you think you might like to learn from others, eg 'I'm thinking about alternative fuels, does anyone have any experience of running a diesal car off old chip oil'. Hopefully that sort of a discussion will forge some new links between people, and help to get some new things moving.

So come along to the Council House at 7.30pm on Mon 27 Sept (ask at reception for directions) and find a new bunch of people prepared to share skills!

Lending Club

Helen has set up a Yahoo group to act as the basis for a lending club: those who need to borrow something post a message to ask if any other member of the group can lend it. Simple!

Helen says: " If enough people join it should work...

http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/earlsdonlendingclub/

At the moment it's quite simple - people post a message when they want to borrow something, whoever has that thing and is willing to lend it out emails that person and they make the arrangements between themselves. We're hoping to add a feedback page where you can put whether someone returned the item on time/late/ not at all, and what condition it was in. If it really takes off I might set up a new website that's easier to use and has different features for example that you could list things that you have that people might like to borrow. I'm open to comments/suggestions for improvement. Never done anything like this before!"

Please join the group, and lets get lending!!

Website

We are in the process of moving from this simple Wiki to a new Drupal microsite, and in the process will be updating our pages on the main Transition website. Does anyone have any such skills and interest to be able to commit to doing this? It is a good opportunity for people to know what we are doing and may bring along more people who want to take a more active part. Please let us know if you are such a person...!
