There is dedicated outside space available to create a community garden

Talk by Roberto Perez, Permaculturist from Cuba
Roberto Perez, featured in the film
"The Power of the Community - How Cuba Survived Peak Oil"
will be giving a talk at Ysgol Bro Ddyfi, Machynlleth
on Saturday 13th September at 7.30pm
hosted by Transition Bro Ddyfi.

Climate change and peak oil are on many people's minds today. The big question is how do we make the transition to a low energy society, and what would such a society be like? The way Cuba adapted to the Special Period when oil was in short supply is a model that many people are trying to learn and take inspiration from.

Roberto Perez is a Cuban permaculturist and environmental educator who will be on tour in the UK in September. Roberto worked to develop urban food growing in the Special Period to increase Cuba's food security, using permaculture techniques which seek sustainable solutions by following nature's patterns.

Cuba's experience is explained in the award-winning documentary film, The Power of Community, in which Roberto features, and now he will be visiting groups and food growing projects across the country, many of which are organising events for local people to hear him talk about the transition in Cuba.

Help tidy up the Plas for the Summer!!
Saturday 19th July 2 - 4pm at the Plas Grounds in Machynlleth
To celebrate the return of the Plas to the people of the town and to get the grounds ready for the summer holidays volunteers from the town collected 22 bags of rubbish from all over the Plas grounds. There is plenty more to collect so watch this space for future events. Thanks to all those who turned up and did such a fantastic job. Special thanks to Delyth from Keep Wales tidy who organised all the equipment plus tea and coffee afterwards. We watched the film "Message in the Waves" after finishing the tidy up. It is a very powerful piece about the effects of plastic rubbish. It was however a nightmare to get hold of as it had to be downloaded from the internet - so many, many thanks go to Idris Jones from Powys Training, who never, never, never gives up and who after several days managed to get it onto a DVD!

A Talk by Starhawk - "Earth Spirit, Earth Action" Friday 25th July, 7.30pm Venue TBC
Starhawk will share her insights on the process of navigating the peak oil/climate change crises.

"How do we hold our commitment and keep our work emotionally viable, while allowing ourselves to feel the pain and fear of our current situation? How do we keep momentum in the face of setbacks and interpersonal differences? How do we continue to reach out and invite in those people who may be feeling numbed or powerless? How can we heal our personal relationships with the earth, so that we can feel sustained by nature, not just guilty and panicky? How can earth-based spiritual experiences and practices inspire and support us in our work and our visioning? What place might spirituality take in our Energy Descent Plan? What inspires us? How do our passions translate into actions? What practical steps can we now take to reinforce our connections with the earth on an emotional, not just intellectual, level?"
