'+TTB Communication Group Minutes Monday 19th November+'

Present: John, Chris (minutes), Rocio, Lisa (several apologies which I didn't make a note of, sorry)

Feedback from the previous meeting

o We need to clear to everyone that the deadline for Friday's South London Press is Tuesday (e.g. Chris would have edited his pictures faster if he'd known the deadline was Tuesday rather than later in the week) o We need more publicity about who we are and what Transition Towns are. After some discussion we agreed two A5 flyers: one saying all the things TTB has done (organised public meetings, organised films, mobilised for the demo etc.) and one giving general background to what Transition Towns are. Lisa will do a draft version of the leaflets in time for our stalls this Saturday (see below). She'll then forward it to Jody so we can produce a professionally designed version for future events o It would be helpful for publicity if the other subgroups produced an A4 briefing sheet about what they did. This should be done to a standard template (this makes the briefings look more like a set, and should have alleviate any writers block from whoever writes the briefing). Rocio to coordinate o Chris will produce a sign up sheet for stalls o John will procure a collecting tin for stalls o For future events we should advertise a start and end time, not just a start time. This will help if people have, for example, to organise child care. We would need to liaise with the chair of the meeting as to what was an appropriate time to advertise and make sure the chair sticks to it.

Publicity for demonstration: Shops

o Chris will distribute his list of sympathetic shops to everyone, then: o Lisa will do Brixton shops o Chris will liaise with Shane regarding Herne Hill shops o John will liaise with Neville regarding Oval shops o Rocio will do Clapham shops (from Chris' list) and Camberwell shops (from a list Lisa has) Additional thoughts: o Can Lisa please send Chris the list of sympathetic shops in Camberwell, and her updated list of sympathetic shops in Brixton o When you're going to shops remember to bring your own blu tac and pins. It's unlikely they'll accept anything larger than A4. o Can all volunteers please handwrite details of the Brixton meeting point on the posters they give to shops, preferably on a sticker. Something like “Transition Town Brixton meets 11am outside the Ritzy. Www.transitiontownbrixton.org” (I didn't make a note of the exact wording we agreed, sorry, but I think it was something like that).

Publicity for demonstration: stalls & tubes

o Rocio is organising a stall on Saturday 24th 1200 – 1330 at the Herne Hill Gates of Brockwell Park. o Rocio will pick up posters and flyers from Duncan o Rocio will pick up other materials (including a sign up sheet) and a pasting table from Chris. Rocio and Chris will liaise regarding a convenient time to pick materials up o Lisa will print the A5 “Who are we” and “What are Transition Towns” leaflets and give them to Rocio at the stall on Saturday o John will organise a stall on Sunday 2nd December 1200 – 1330, Brixton tube o Chris will organise leafletting of tubes during the morning rush hour of Tuesday 4th December o Lisa will organise leafletting of tubes during the morning rush hour of Friday 7th December We won't add details of local meet up points to the leaflets for stalls and tubes as that would be too much work. However, if anyone seems interested (particularly on stalls) we will tell them (and possibly annotate the leaflet)

A.O.B.

John, Jody and Lisa are doing banner making on Sunday 25th November.

John and Rocio both have ideas regarding the contents of the library shelf. They will contact Duncan directly regarding them.

At the last TTB stall we were approached by an art show on the South Bank asking if we'd like a table at the show for publicity (can't remember the details, they're in an email I sent out a little while ago). Rocio will approach these people to find out how we can work together. The ideas for publicity are roughly as follows o Rocio will bring some demo leaflets and a sign up sheet when she first goes there, though we hope they have the former already o Rocio will bring the two A5 “Who are we” leaflets when she goes there a second time, hopefully they'll be printed by then o Later someone can bring the A4 briefing sheets (when they're done), and possibly also Jody's library display when it is no longer required in the library.
