Transition City Bristol
Overview
We are in the early stages, focusing on awareness raising, but things are already in full swing! Find out more & sign up for updates at our website
Activity so far
We've been busy meeting with many of the incredible permaculture and sustainability projects in Bristol, creating partnerships and a general buzz around all the possibilities of Bristol taking on the Transition challenge. The response from others working on sustainability issues has been unanimously positive and collaborative, which is helping keep momentum going and spirits high.
Theory of Anyway
The initial steering group of TCB discovered early on that although we are all motivated to try and implement Transition in Bristol in response to Peak Oil and Climate Change impact, we are so inspired by the incredible possibilities of a post-oil city that our energy is really coming from the "Theory of Anyway"!
Next Steps - Awareness Raising in the Villages
The events we've held so far have all proved popular, and it feels like the timing is right for Transition in Bristol. Our focus now is in supporting all those who have asked "how can I get involved?" to put on awareness-raising events in their local area.
Our approach to how to take Bristol through the Transition process (and being the first city to take this on we're tweaking things as we go - or plain making it up!) is to see the city as a network of villages, each of which will take on their own Transition Village process to create local Energy Descent Action Plans addressing their local issues in a way appropriate for them. Each Transition Village will then also feed into a bigger process for the city-wide aspects of a Bristol Energy Descent Action Plan. That's the theory, and we're not attached to it, so let's just see where this goes!
