Transition Town Berkhamsted - Sunday Exchange

The 2009 Sunday Exchange will take place on on 12th July, 9th August and 13th September from 11:30 to 14:00 at the Berkhamsted Friends Meeting House.
This wiki page is for the development of ideas and organisation for these days.

What will be exchanging?
So far it has been suggested that we will encourage exchange of the following local goods, produce and other facilities:

  • Plants
  • Seeds
  • Locally grown fruit and vegetables
  • Hand tools
  • Services?
  • Garden share, where one person offers the use of their garden for another person to grow veg in return for a share of the veg grown.

How will the exchange work?
Suggestion:
When people arrive we take their 'donation' from them and give them tokens in exchange (representing a very approximate value e.g. most donations will be 3 tokens unless much bigger or smaller). The 'donations' are then marked with their token price and put onto various tables according to category. The people can then spend up to the value of their tokens on whatever they wish. People could also buy tokens if they wanted.
We need to try to avoid accumulating items that no one will want. Otherwise we will be left with lots of junk at the end of the day!

Refreshments
Tea, coffee, juice plus...
We will try to offer a selection of locally made produce/ produce made from local ingredients.
Susan is looking into local recipe ideas e.g. the Hertfordshire apple fritter!

Other
We will need a lot of helpers for this. So need to encourage people to join us at every opportunity!
